Laura Vallier (2006). Initial Characterization of the lim-7Δ Mutation and Assessment of Its Role in Gonadal Sheath Development presented in Development & Evolution Meeting. Unpublished information; cite only with author permission.
The gonadal sheath comprises five pairs of cells (GSC) that encircle the proximal half of the gonad. A lim-7::GFP reporter auto-fluoresces in the proximal GSC pairs one to four. The lim-7 gene is a member of the LIM homeodomain-containing subclass of homeobox family or proteins and is most closely related to the Islet group of these proteins. In addition to the gonadal sheath, lim-7::GFP localizes to two URA head neurons. A knockout of the lim-7 gene (tm674) by the Japanese consortium results in an embryonic lethal phenotype. To better understand what role the lim-7 gene is playing in the gonadal sheath cells, we are beginning initial characterization of the lim-7 knockout. Current results will be presented.
