(A) The tail(top) shows staining in the anus and hypodermis. Staining was detected in the buccal cavity (b), deirids (d), pharynx, intestine, and neurons but not in body wall muscle. Lateral (B) and ventral (C and D) views of the vulvae showing exclusion of the riboprobe from the nuclei. In C there is also staining in the uterus and gonads. The images are optical sections that were recorded with a laser confocal microscope MRC-600 (Bio-Rad, Hempstead, United Kingdom) as described elsewhere (Podbilewicz and White, 1994).
