Diffuse mosaic expression is seen in the pharynx from the L2 larval stage to adult. This expression is possibly spurious (Hope, I.A. (1991). Development, 113, 399. Krause, M. et al. (1994). Dev. Biol., 166, 133.). However, the upstream region used in this construct is 5.7kb and should contain all upstream promoter elements.

Infrequent expression is seen in all larval stages and in adults. Staining usually occurs in the two to four most posterior intestinal nuclei, with occasionally others also staining. This expression has been observed many times previously and is possibly an artefact of the reporter system. (Hope, I.A. (1991). Development, 113, 399. Krause, M. et al. (1994). Dev. Biol., 166, 133.) All of the intergenic region is covered in the 2.2kb 5' upstream region used in this construct. However this fusion does not include the two extremely large introns of this ~24kb gene. The gene has homology to phosphoribosylformylglycinamidine synthase.
