The subcellular location of the fusion protein was determined by either conventional or confocal fluorescent microscopy. Fluorescent images are shown next to the corresponding differential interference contrast photomicrographs. Expression of the NHX-3::GFP protein appears to occur in a punctate pattern that is evenly distributed throughout the hypodermal cells (panels M and N).
