Expression of GFP seen in neuronal structures like the nerve ring, the ganglia, dorsal and ventral nerve cords with connecting commissures, inhibitory, mechanosensory and sensory motor neurons and sensory tail neurons. Additional GFP expression was seen in the somatic gonad, the vulva, uterus tissue and the spermatheca of adult worm. The neuronal expression pattern overlaps to great extent with the one of let-60 (Supplementary Fig. 1).

Fig. 1. Differential COQ-8::GFP expression pattern during aging in C. elegans. Nervous system GFP expression (red arrows) remained nearly constant during entire life of the animal. Hypodermis GFP expression (blue arrows) was detected in L2 larval stage with maximum expression in L3 stage. L4 showed reduced fluorescence and older adult animals did not show fluorescence in hypodermis. High GFP expression pattern was detected in hyp7, the biggest syncytial hypodermal cell involved in the synthesis of the cuticle. However the seam cells (yellow arrow), differentiated hypodermal cells involved in the production of the alae in both sides of the worm, did not express the GFP. Muscle cells GFP expression was observed in L1 animals (white arrows). The fluorescence increased in L2 and the intensity of signal and the number of expressing cells were maximal in L3.
