pal-1 : spn-4

Wild-type embryos express PAL-1 only in posterior blastomeres starting at the four-cell stage. spn-4(RNAi) embryos express PAL-1 in all blastomeres at the four-cell stage; PAL-1 is often detected at lower levels in anterior blastomeres than posterior blastomeres, as evident in the eight-cell embryo. Approximately half of spn-4(RNAi) 22- to 26-cell embryos express PAL-1 in all blastomeres, the remainder express PAL-1 only in posterior blastomeres, similar to wild-type embryos.

pal-1 : par-4

par-4 mutant fail to express PAL-1 in the early embryo. In wild type animals, pal-1 is only expressed in P2 and EMS at 4-cell stage.

"In pal-1(e2091), only two cells were stained, consistent with the loss of PAL-1 expression in V6 (Fig. 3B) (Hunter et al. 1999). In pal-1(e2091); sop-1(bx92), three MAB-5-positive cells were visible (n = 4/4) (Fig. 3C). PAL-1 staining was weak and difficult to localize to individual cells, but was consistent with expression in the cell identified as V6 (Fig. 3C)."

gld-1 : mex-3 : pal-1

A clear increase in ectopic PAL-1 was observed in the distal germline of mex-3(RNAi); gld-1(RNAi) worms. In 100% of gld-1 (q485) and RNAi worms, between 0-50 distal germline nuclei express PAL-1 (n=63), whereas in 71% of gld-1(RNAi); mex-3(RNAi) worms, between 50-200+ distal germline nuclei express PAL-1 (n=41). Hence, in wild-type worms, gld-1 inhibits both PAL-1 and MEX-3 expression in the distal germline, while MEX-3 inhibits PAL-1 expression in the proximal germline.
