WAH-1::GFP was widely expressed in embryos and larvae, displaying a punctate, cytoplasmic staining pattern of the mitochondrial localization pattern. Upon heat-shock treatment of egl-1(n3082) embryos transgenic for both wah-1 promoter::wah-1::gfp and hsp promoter::egl-1, WAH-1::GFP lost its normally punctate, cytoplasmic staining pattern and, instead, adopted a more uniform localization pattern with more intense GFP fluorescence seen in the nuclei.

In tat-1(tm1034) animals, phosphatidylserine (PS) distribution in the membrane of C. elegans germ cells so that PS staining was observed on the surface of many normal germ cells. In wild-type C. elegans, no PS staining was observed on the surface of normal germ cells. Germ cell staining of phosphatidylserine PS was not reduced in tat-1(tm1034) animals treated with wah-1(RNAi), thus, loss of WAH-1 does not affect PS externalization in tat-1 deficient animals.
