The analysis of the expression pattern of
lin-11::GFP (syIs53) in
lin-17(
n671) animals showed a good correlation between the ectopic invagination of P7.p lineage cells (55%, n=53) and their altered pattern of
lin-11::GFP expression (47%, n=36). In a wild-type animal at the Pn.pxx stage, syIs53 expression is typically detected in P5.ppx and P7.pax cells. However, in
lin-17(
n671) animals, the pattern of expression is defective in P7.p but not in P5.p progeny. The most frequent defect is a mirror image of the wild-type pattern in P7.p progeny. The other defect is either a graded or uniform distribution of GFP in all P7.p progeny. Very few worms had correctly localized GFP.
