Masculinization of the germ line using a gain-of-function mutation in fem-3 (Barton et al. 1987) did not suppress gamete degeneration; we observed vacuolated and morphologically abnormal sperm in sacy-1(tm5503); fem-3(q20gf) animals (Figure S5).
