quemao (qm) encodes the ortholog of human geranylgeranyl pyrophosphate synthase (GGPS1), which catalyses protein prenylation and thereby facilitates membrane targeting of proteins. The qm product contributes to heart formation, germ cell migration, and maintenance of plasma membrane integrity in growing oocytes.
