Caenorhabditis elegans Enables RNA uridylyltransferase activity. Involved in RNA 3' uridylation. Located in P granule; condensed nuclear chromosome; and perinuclear region of cytoplasm. Expressed in germ line and intestine. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in breast cancer and liver benign neoplasm. Is an ortholog of human TUT4 (terminal uridylyl transferase 4) and TUT7 (terminal uridylyl transferase 7).
- hts [Search on AGR]
Drosophila melanogaster hu li tai shao (hts) encodes an adducin homolog that is associated with the plasma membrane cytoskeleton, fusome and oocyte ring canals. It has essential functions in muscle, nerve and other tissues, and is required for fertility in males and females.

Homo sapiens A member of the ELAVL protein family, ELAV-like 3 is a neural-specific RNA-binding protein which contains three RNP-type RNA recognition motifs. The observation that ELAVL3 is one of several Hu antigens (neuronal-specific RNA-binding proteins) recognized by the anti-Hu serum antibody present in sera from patients with paraneoplastic encephalomyelitis and sensory neuronopathy (PEM/PSN) suggests it has a role in neurogenesis. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Rattus norvegicus Predicted to enable chitin binding activity. Predicted to be involved in chitin catabolic process. Predicted to be active in extracellular region. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in asthma. Orthologous to human CHIA (chitinase acidic); INTERACTS WITH bis(2-chloroethyl) sulfide; dioxygen; HU-308.

Homo sapiens Transcription factors of the basic helix-loop-helix-zipper (bHLH-ZIP) family contain a basic domain, which is used for DNA binding, and HLH and ZIP domains, which are used for oligomerization. Transcription factor AP4 activates both viral and cellular genes by binding to the symmetrical DNA sequence CAGCTG (Mermod et al., 1988 [PubMed 2833704]; Hu et al., 1990 [PubMed 2123466]).[supplied by OMIM, Jul 2009]
- elav [Search on AGR]
Drosophila melanogaster embryonic lethal abnormal vision (elav) encodes the founding member of a family of prototype RNA binding proteins homologous to human Hu proteins, and acting as gene-specific regulators of many aspects of mRNA processing. Drosophila has three members in this family, elav, fne and Rbp9, which are predominantly pan-neuronal. elav has roles in axon guidance, synapse formation and photoreceptor differentiation.

Saccharomyces cerevisiae Transcriptional repressor at START; binds to SBF (Swi4p-Swi6p) at SCB promoter elements in G1 to repress transcription; START inhibitor that retains Cdc28-Cln3 at the ER; acts with Ydj1p to promote release of the complex in a growth-mediated positive feedback loop to trigger START; unstable and degraded by SCF-Grr1 after phosphorylation; contains a G1/S transcription factor binding (GTB) motif; binds SBF-regulated promoters in HU-treated cells; substrate of Cdc28p and Pho85p; hyperphosphorylated
