The expression of the lin-17 gene was analyzed using a reporter in which a nuclear localized variant of GFP was expressed under the control of the lin-17 promoter. This construct expressed GFP in VPCs P5.p, P6.p, and P7.p, their daughters, and granddaughters, and was coexpressed with lin-18::DsRed2 (full-length LIN-18::DsRed2 fusion under the control of the lin-18 promoter). Thus, LIN-17 and LIN-18 proteins are likely present in the same cells during vulval development.
